Haley interviews Jennifer Fisher

by haley sherif

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but so are skulls, studs, and charms! Well, that’s all according to jewelry design Jennifer Fisher. Jennifer began her career in fashion in California, but after moving to New York and having her first child she was determined to find a token of her affection for her son, something unique that also went along with her look. Unable to find what she wanted she designed it herself. Jennifer Fisher Jewelry would soon be born.  Once creating in her bedroom, JFJ, has grown to welcome a massive high end clientele including numerous celebrities like Katie Holmes. Jennifer dishes to us on business, summer, and much more.

HS: What are your wardrobe staples?

JF: I live in Alexander Wang and Phillip Lim Tanks, leather pants and combat boots. As long as it’s not too colorful or girly -I’m game.

HS: How do you beat the heat?

JF: We take trips to California to escape the hot and humid summer months in NY and we also love the pool at the SoHo house!!!

HS: How would you describe your style?

JF: City utilitarian with a California vibe

HS: What is one accessory you can’t live without?

JF: My new Celine Phantom Bag that was just given to me as a gift and my iPhone.

HS: Talk to me about JFJ. How did it begin? What’s the story behind the brand?

JF: The company started as a happy accident. I created my first piece of jewelry after the birth of my son after years of struggling due to health issues.  I wanted something bespoke, fine and significant with an edge without being too commercial and generic. Friends and strangers started asking me to create personal pieces for them and the line has now grown to include over 3,000 charms and custom pieces.

HS: What has been your favorite collection thus far?

JF:  The line is evergreen and all of the pieces stay in the collection.  That said, my favorite collection started 3 years ago when I started with pave in the black and white diamonds.

HS: Did you ever think you would have such a celebrity following or the brand would be the success it is now?

JF:  I feel so lucky every day.  When a magazine, film or celebrity calls to request pieces- I feel so lucky. The company started in my bedroom! I remember being in London with a girlfriend on vacation and taking an order on my cell phone because it was the office line.  We were dying laughing during the call because the customer had no idea that I was not in an office.

HS: What’s your favorite JFJ piece?

JF: The first tags I ever made. I never take them off.

HS: What jewels do you wear everyday?

JF: Not sure if there is enough room to list everything….I pile it on! During the day, my necklace with 12 charms never leaves my neck. Other things rotate in and out.

HS: What pieces are must have investments for a woman who wants to begin collecting?

JF: I always say start with a chain you love and 1-3 charms and build from there. It is great to add something new every so often for holidays and to change the look of it.

HS: What does the future hold for JFJ?

JF: There is so much going on…stay tuned for Fall.

HS: Any summer plans?

JF: I am waiting to hear the results from a competition I have just entered.  My fingers are crossed.  I cannot make any plans until I know if I make it to the next phase of the competition. If possible- I would love to make it to California to visit my family in August and am planning a small trip to Spain. I know I will be inspired by the street culture there.
